Welcome to Christmas in July!
This photo was taken very early in the 80s after I married Charley and we bought our old house on Orange Street. It was two blocks away from my exceedingly proper mother-in-law, Martha. I had painted the dining room red by myself and this was probably the first time we used it. Martha was coming and she liked formality and I wanted to please her. My friend Jill made me the apron and I always loved wearing it.

Tomorrow, July 14, my friend Brooke Lee Foster`s wonderful novel Our Last Vineyard Summer comes out in paperback! This is the perfect beach read. I`m not the only fan--look what others are saying:
"A rich new voice in historical fiction." — PARADE magazine
"A fiercely unforgettable heroine." — Entertainment Weekly
"Begins with innocent intrigue, segues into a love triangle.."— People Magazine
Glamour girl/librarian Misty arrives in Nantucket and visits the Nantucket Atheneum research library with Lincoln Thurber.
The flawless Kyleigh Leddy signed her new novel Worse Than Strangers at Mitchell`s Book Corner Friday 3rd. It`s such a good book!
What a thrill to see Pam Dorman, revered editor of so many brilliant books, at my book signing last Friday morning! We have known each other for a long time.❤️

WHEN I CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT
By Nancy Thayer
When I can’t sleep at night,
I wonder if the robin in her nest
Also has insomnia
And worries that
There won’t be enough worms
Or that her mate is checking out
That cute little chickadee next tree.
I hope that when she tucks her head
Under the curve of her soft
Downy feathers,
She falls asleep at once
And dreams of me.
And in her dreams
I am sleeping, too.
What do you love? (and I’m not the oldest person on Nantucket.)
Misty and I were in The Great Hall of the Nantucket Atheneum talking with research librarian Lincoln Thurber.
