Surfside Sisters

Tea party with summer themed cupcakes

Hello, everyone!

I can’t stay away from themes involving sisters! Keely Green thinks of Isabelle Maxwell as her sister. They both live on Nantucket, they become best friends in pre-school, they get up to all kinds of silly pranks, and yet, when they are young women, they fall out, break apart, and end their friendship—because of a man.

Also, because, and here we are, back to the rich girl/poor girl theme. . .Keely has to work as a maid to help her mother keep their small house. Later in life, she has to return to the island to be with her mother who is troubled by serious depression. Depression is a theme I return to often in many of my novels. I have relatives and friends who suffer from depression and I’d like the world to know that it’s a serious problem, and one that can be helped.

Keely goes on to make her lifelong wish come true—she lives in New York, where she’s a bestselling author. Then her editor rejects her latest novel and she has new and different man trouble, and her mother needs her. Keely returns to the island to face old problems. . .and new possibilities.

All my life, my best friends have been as close to me as my sister. Actually, my sister and I were geographically separated. She lived with her family outside Kansas City and I lived with my family in Massachusetts. My birth sister and my life sisters were always there for me, consoling me, celebrating with me, and I returned the favor. I hope!

I was thrilled to be on the NYTimes and the USA Today best-sellers list! So many people are involved with producing a good book. My agent, my editor, the copy-editor, the artist who designs the book cover, and the marketing and publicity experts in NYC all make the book happen.

For the past few years, one special person has helped enormously to let readers know my books my books are out. Tim Ehrenberg lives on Nantucket and is Marketing and Events director for Nantucket Book Partners and much more. He organizes fabulous book signings and special gifts for pre-orders at Nantucket Book Partners.

Today I’m working on a new novel, and eating a few chocolates for energy, and this evening I’ll be settling in to read a novel from my TBR pile. I admit, I love February, when I have to stay inside and read! Happy winter to you all!
